Relax into Life

Today I was riding my bicycle along trails and knew I was coming up to a sandy patch which always scares me. I must have wiped out one day or almost wiped out a long time ago and never quite got over it! I know my bike can ride through sand (at least this much) so I relaxed in the seat and rode on through.

Have you ever experienced this? What happened? Maybe you just rode over it with a little sliding under the tires, or you thought you might lose your balance, perhaps you noticed the sand  and you went right over it, or maybe you took a spill?

What happens the next time you see a sandy patch in the road? Do you try to avoid it or do you relax into your seat and ride right through it? I suppose the denseness of the sand and the type of bicycle you’re riding makes a difference. What if you now have a bicycle that rides through sand?

As we live, we all hit sandy patches. Sometimes we’re not prepared for them and we take a spill. Then we lift ourselves up, dust off, and start up again. Suddenly, something happens in life that reminds us of the last sandy patch, and our first instinct may be to avoid the situation. Our minds quickly assess, call up memories, check our strengths and weaknesses and then, one of 2 things happen within a split second: (1) we choose to avoid the situation or (2) we courageously confront the situation with new confidence and strength, proving once again that we can overcome challenges and fears.

The more we exercise our courage and believe in our newfound strengths, the better our memories will help us make decisions that allow us to take the high road. The high road isn’t usually the easier one, but it’s always the most rewarding. We keep getting better at cutting through the challenges of life and become the best expression of ourselves. Relax into life, believe that you can and you always will.
